25th of May 2016
Dear Parents/Guardians, I am delighted to be informing you of some upcoming exciting events in our school. Our Active Week will take place from the 1st to the 10th of June. This will involve a series of exciting, sporting and active events over 2 weeks that the children will take part in. It will begin on Wednesday the 1st of June and because of the bank holiday weekend in June, (with Monday and Friday off) it will run until the next Friday which is the 10th. Here is a timetable of some of the events that will take place. Wed 1st - Skipping Thurs 2nd - Rugby/Aerobics Tues 7th - Dance/Yoga/Hula Hooping Wed 8th - Athletics Thur 9th Sports Day Fri 10th - Mini World Cup We will begin on the Wednesday with “Skipping for Life” organised by Skippy John. This is outlined in the corresponding letter and there is also an option for the children to buy skipping ropes on the day if they wish to. We will continue with some rugby activities led by one of the qualified rugby coaches. On the next Tuesday, Eileen Rowe will facilitate yoga/ hula hooping activities. Athletics will be led by our local athletic group on the Wednesday. Sports Day will take place on the Thursday and finally on Friday, a mini World Cup Tournament will take place for pupils from 1st to 6th. This will be manned on the day by our local soccer representatives. We would like to thank all the helpers, both parents and specialists who are giving up their time to make our Active Week possible, in particular; Jenny, our secretary who is organising the Athletics Day with her team of helpers- Bridget Ryan, Paddy Hynes and John Morgan. A big word of thanks to our local soccer club – Brian Mc Govern and crew and of courses our Parents’ Association who will sponsor the bouncy castle on Sports Day and will also help us out on the day. To cover the cost of Active School Week, we are asking for each child to bring in €3, to a maximum of €6 per family. Finally, here are our Active School Committee members: They will be helping myself and the other teachers to co-ordinate the week. They will also be running active breaks from now until the end of June. During this time and because of the nature of these events, we would ask that all children wear appropriate clothing and footwear. In the event of fine weather, they should also wear sun cream as they may be outside for long periods of the day. It is important for them to fuel their bodies correctly for the event so plenty of water and healthy, adequate lunches are necessary. We really hope the children enjoy the upcoming events and that we have a fun filled, active, energetic time. Many thanks for your co-operation, Ms. Lesley Power |
